The Week Before Thanksgiving

This last week I am sure will fly by. We have 2 different hats to make a turkey and a native american head dress. We will also be squeezing in a  few other themed crafts. We will conclude our week with a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. The students will enjoy the same treats as the Peanut Gang while they watch the movie. The student surprise this week will be that on Friday we are planning a comfy P.J. day. This is always one of our favorite type dress up days.

Oops...in the homework section the word "can" accidently appears twice. One of them should be "the."

What's Happening This Week

This week is going to fly by. We will be having Parent/Teacher Conferences this week. I always enjoy these since it lets me get to know my students families a little better and we can discuss all of the things that make these little ones so special. In order to create time for these conferences school will be dismissed at noon Wednesday-Friday this week only.

This week we will continue our Alphabet Journey by introducing the letter Kk and reviewing all of the other letters we have had so far. Also, we will be focusing on identifying rhyming words. This can be a challenge for quite a few of them still. During morning centers I will be introducing one new center for them to work on in the mornings. I love having them practice the ones they already know, but it is fun to add new ones too so they don't get bored. These centers are designed to work on letter identification and recognition along with fine motor skills.

This week I will be introducing a morning ELA center where they focus on letters. During these centers they will be reviewing recognizing and forming letters Aa and Bb along with adding in Cc and Dd. Some centers may also incorporate writing their name.

On the First Day

I will be in the cafeteria by 8am the first and second day of school. I will hopefully meet up with all of my new friends while in their. I have name badges for all of them to wear so we will put them on as they get dropped off with me. When it is time for school to start we will practice walking in our first line to our classroom all together. We will say good bye to our families and start the first of hopefully many enjoyable days together.

A Little Bit About Me

I am excited to be starting my 17th school year in the Plumas Lake Elementary School District. I have taught TK through 8th grade. I have also done many other jobs in our district as it has grown that include working as an Administrator, Mentor Teacher, Athletic Director, and a New Teacher Coordinator. My first love is definitely being able to work directly with the students.

I will do my best to stay in touch with everyone as much as possible and respond to all communication as quick as possible. I do have four kids of my own so in the evenings I will be enjoying my own family time. My oldest is starting TK this week and he will be five next month. My daughter is three and attends preschool. Last year I had a wonderful surprise and my twin boys will be one this week. So as you can imagine my house can be a little crazy sometimes.

I am excited to be beginning another TK/Kinder loop this year. It is amazing to see how much the students grow academically, socially, and emotionally in two years. I feel extremely lucky to be one of only four teachers currently in our district that get to work with our youngest students. I love watching them discover the world around them.

One goal I have this year is to have different students featured on this blog. They will take pictures of their work and learning activities and share information about what we did. Stay tuned to see what your child blogs about.....
